To our Integrity Family and our Brookwood brothers and sisters, THANK YOU!
Everyone had a wonderful time on Sunday night at The Nativity Story, hosted at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Burlington for the benefit of Loaves and Fishes. More than 700 people from our church families, extended families and invited guests joined us to celebrate the birth of Jesus and the sacrifice he made for us.
If you joined us, please take a moment to let us know about your experience and share any comments you might have. http://response.unitedinworship.com/
Special thanks go out to each and every person who assisted with, sang, performed, helped produce, coordinate, light, wardrobe, setup, tear down, feed, corral, and pray for the event and everyone involved. Your hard work and dedication not only makes a difference in our church family, it has a big impact in and around our community!

Recently, I was asked to do a column about “The Golden Compass.” It seems that a concerned parent had asked whether this book was appropriate for their child to read. Honestly, at this time, this book was not on my radar. Imagine my surprise to see the promos for the movie start appearing on my television screen. Naturally, after doing a little research, I felt this is a topic of which we all need to be aware.
I must warn you that I have not read the book and the movie has not been released as I write this article. It reminds me of some book reports that I wrote in school. But, I have done some research on the Internet and do have a few things to say about the book and the movie. Hopefully, I will be fair and do certainly encourage you to do your own research and make your own decision about this matter.
The movie is a rather large budget picture ($180 million) that stars Nicole Kidman. It is rated PG-13 and has opened big in the United Kingdom box office. It grossed $1.9 million in its release which means that it out grossed “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.” The film is aimed at the “tweeners” which are kids who range in age from 10-14 years old. It is a story that takes place in a fantasy world complete with talking animals. The movie is based on a trilogy of books written by Phillip Pullman. “The Golden Compass” is the first book of the “His Dark Materials” trilogy. The other books are entitled “The Subtle Knife” and “The Amber Spyglass.” In the UK, the book was originally entitled “Northern Lights.” So, what’s the fuss?
